We do not have a separate shelter, and all cats in the program are in foster homes. We do not euthanize FIV or FeLV positive cats, nor otherwise healthy cats

In March 2003, four young ladies in fourth grade were upset about dogs being euthanized in our town. Determined to stop this, they went to the City Council, convinced them to make the local animal control a no-kill facility, and then formulated a recycling plan to help fund their own no-kill rescue shelter, to be operated and maintained by student volunteers(ages 9-11). With very limited resources, no electricity (until December ༿) and minimal water access, they began picking up dogs and cats from the city facility, having them checked by the local vets, vaccinated, and -most importantly- spaying or neutering them prior to adoption. While facing many adverse conditions, these volunteers spent most of their free time over the past year at DAWGS, where they fed, watered, cleaned and loved the animal in their care. The shelter is located on an old ranch outside of town, which has been converted into nice, roomy pens for all of the inhabitants until they can find a loving, forever home. CAN is a 501c3, non-profit, foster based program which currently serves approximately 35 dogs and puppies. WE DO NOT HAVE A SHELTER. All animals in our program receive necessary vaccinations, tests, and spay or neuter before being adopted. One of the advantages of having our dogs in private homes is that we know how they react inside our foster homes, learn their personalities and generally how they interact with other dogs, children and, depending upon the individual home, with cats.

Our mission is to responsibly re-home unwanted animals with a precise pre-adoption program after social or health rehabilitation of the companion animal. We also strive to decrease the number of animals being born with our policy of no adoption until spay/neutered. We rescue all breeds dogs, cats from animal control, owner surrenders and feral cats. At this time we do not have a shelter so all our animals are in foster care.

The chief purpose of Addisons Hope is to alleviate the pain and suffering of animals in need, focusing first on the feral cat population in the greater North Dallas region. We practice and promote proven Trap/Neuter/Release methods as the humane and non-lethal solution to the overpopulation problem of homeless and abandoned cats. Community out reach, education and participation are strongly emphasized. We provide veterinary services for cats we rescue and, because we are sensitive to each individual life, we also strive to provide the gentlest and least stressful environment possible while they undergo medical treatment. We also work with local agencies to create a greater networking force in the quest to give every animal a healthy, happy and safe life.
