Kanyon's GoldKanyon's Gold Rescue (KGR) is a small, non-profit, group of volunteers, dedicated to the rehabilitation, care, and adoption of animals rescued from euthanizing animal shelters in the Maryville/Knoxville, TN area. KGR is a tax-exempt nonprofit corporation as defined in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. We promote humane education and encourage responsible pet ownership. Our first priority is to rescue as many unwanted or unclaimed adoptable dogs and pups from area shelters as possible. Relatively new to rescue, 3 years experience, we are committed to doing everything we can to help aid these furry friends in need. Kingsport Police Department, Animal ControlThe Animal Control Officers are responsible for enforcement of the animal control ordinances of the city, picking up stray or abandoned animals, monitoring health and welfare of domestic animals, and assisting the Humane Society in animal cruelty investigations. This unit responded to 3,176 calls for service in 2004. This is a decrease of 149 calls from 2003. In addition, the Animal Control Officers picked up and disposed of 942 dead animals located on city right-of-ways.
