A Wet Nose Dog RescueA Wet Nose Dog Rescue (AWNDR) is very small rescue located in south central PA. We are a short distance from Hagerstown MD (approx. 12 miles) and 8 miles east of I-81. We are dedicated to all dogs but primarily german shepherd dogs. We concentrate on moving dogs from high kill shelters to foster homes and then to their forever homes. We have alot of experience with the shepherd breed and want to help these dogs who have been the victim of unwilling or unable owners or those dogs found as strays. All of these dogs will be temperment tested and placed accordingly. A.N.N.A. Shelter, Inc.The Association for Needy and Neglected Animals was incorporated as a non-profit animal welfare organization in June of 2004. The group is named for Anna - a Shitzu mix (pictured at left) that was brought into the local police impound and was scheduled for euthanasia. Our director spotted her and took her in. With a little time, effort and expense, Anna was cleaned up and back on her way to good health. Our organization was started to help other animals like Anna get a second chance. Adams County SPCAThe Adams County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is a private, non-profit, 501 (c)(3) charitable organization that serves Adams County and functions under a governing board elected by the membership. Its purposes are to provide effective means of preventing abuse of animals, to assist in the enforcement of public laws enacted for the protection of animals, and to house and find homes for stray and unwanted animals. We operate the only Animal Shelter that accepts animals from all Adams County municipalities. At our Shelter, stray, abandoned, injured or unwanted animals are cared for and made available for adoption. In addition to operating the Animal Shelter we also employ a humane officer to assist in the enforcement of Pennsylvania's anti-cruelty laws. We participate in a radio-broadcast "lost and found" pets service. As a public service, we provide low-cost rabies clinics twice a year, we regularly take pets on visits to area nursing homes to provide special recreation for the residents, and we provide educational presentations for youth organizations on resposible care of animals. We also maintain a pet cemetery where owners may purchase burial plots for their pets. The SPCA receives no federal funding and little state funding.
