The Western Pennsylvania Humane Society is supported in many ways. However, we are not directly funded through local, state or federal tax dollars and receive no financial support from donations made to any regional or national animal welfare organizations. We rely mainly on you to help us serve the animals of Western Pennsylvania.

We are a no kill animal shelter, where every animal gets a chance. So many animals, think of the shelter as their home, and we think of them as OUR animals. Each one whether cared about previously or not, is cared about and loved when they reach the Hillside's doors.

P.A.W.S. is a non-profit adoption service designed to help find homes for animals in need either medically or otherwise. These animals come to us as strays, orphans and sadly, sometimes as unwanted pets. Any animal over 6 months old is automatically neutered if it has not already been done, before it is placed for adoption. All required vaccines are brought up to date. All animals in the P.A.W.S. program are kept until they find homes. Animals with known temperment problems are not placed in the P.A.W.S. program.

Last Chance Ranch (LCR) rescues equines, including unwanted and mistreated horses. LCR is a volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit rescue supported by fundraisers and donations. LCR is sometimes given horses from owners who can no longer keep their equestrian friend. But LCR primarily rescues horses by purchasing them from butchers at auctions—horses that we know for a fact would be put to death.
