Nowata Animal Shelter is a small non-profit shelter located in Nowata, Oklahoma. The shelter is ran by Holly Ridenhour Animal Control. The shelter has 8 inside/outside runs and 4 small inside runs. We are always full as we are the only shelter for the entire Nowata County. It is sad that we must put down one amimal only to make room for another. We are going to expand and have 20 some runs this summer, It will help us keep and save more lifes. We do adopted out as many as we can, We have them in the paper as well as the petfinder site. We are running to Tulsa to Spay Okla Inc, once a month to help low income families get pets fixed.
We only have 9 cat cages and are hoping the new building will have enough room to have a catroom. We are over run with cats and plan to start a barn cat program soon.

We were formed to help animals in Oklahoma find proper placement. Even though Oklahoma has a large number of animal rescues, too many of them are always full and turn people away who need help finding a home for their pet or a stray they have been caring for. We take in and re-home as many as we can to help cut down on how many are being killed at the shelters. We also provide help to those who work with wildlife in Oklahoma. Finding proper release sites and sometimes homes if the animal is not able to be returned to the wild.

The Animal Welfare Division is responsible for public safety and animal care and protection. We partner with rescue groups, foster homes, volunteers and no-kill shelters to minimize unnecessary euthanasia and to promote the humane ethic. Our goal is to be "no kill" for placeable animals by 2010.

PawsPals is a private, non-profit organization whose mission is to provide homes for pets in need of adoption. PawsPals was established in the 1980's by Mayor Tom Elias whose love for animals prompted him and other caring members of the community to create PawsPals in the hopes of bringing new "family members" to people who had the same love for animals he did. Sadly, Tom Elias has passed but his legacy lives on through PawsPals.
Staff members and various members of the community devote their time to ensure that EVERY pet has the opportunity for a good home. With this concept the dream of Mayor Elias and other caring members of the community will continue to flourish.

Pet Orphanage, LTD is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. We focus mainly on pet ownership education and spay/neuter issues. We do not have a shelter to house our animals. We work mainly with foster homes to help us house them until they are adopted. Due to not having many foster homes right now, we do not have many animals for adoption. However, the animals we do have are still looking for loving homes. They are vet checked and either are sterilized or will be when they are aged appropiate. If you would like to volunteer to help out with either fostering or events, please email us and let us know. We will soon be very busy with activities and would love the extra help.
