Wayward Whiskers is not a shelter. We are a group of dedicated individuals that take animals into our homes until they find permanent homes of their own. We believe that there is a perfect pet for every family. Our goal is to find that family for the animals that have found their way to us. Space is VERY limited in our foster homes and donations are needed. Please email for more information and/or visit www.myspace.com/waywardwhiskers for recent updates.

Our main goal is to find permanent, loving homes for the cats and dogs who are sick, injured, abandoned or unwanted and at risk of being euthanized.
Each animal is seen by one of our veterinarians, updated on all vaccines, spayed or neutered, tested for diseases and given a health certificate. Dogs are also put on Heartworm and Flea preventative. Our animals are placed in a loving foster home until a good, permanent home for them can be found.
Each pet receives daily one-on-one care and attention while in foster care. We work on training and socialization skills to help each pet be the best they can be. Pets do not leave foster care until we feel they are emotionally and physically ready to be placed into a permanent home.

The HHS is a nonprofit organization dedicated to caring for the homeless dogs and cats of Alpena County. Our facility is usually pretty full with 20+ dogs and 80+ cats on any given day. We are a no-kill shelter and will work to heal and rehabilitate the pets that come through our doors. While we cooperate with local governments to provide services to the surrounding city, township and county, we rely on private donations to keep our doors open
