Capital Area Animal Welfare Society (CAAWS) is an all-volunteer non-profit humane society devoted to the prevention of animal suffering. CAAWS has been serving the people and animals of Baton Rouge since 1979 by placing cats and dogs in loving homes and educating the public about responsible pet ownership.
CAAWS is not a shelter, but an adoption agency, which places animals in foster homes until they are adopted. In this way we try to prepare the animals for the experience of living in a home environment. We are a no-kill humane society.
We also provide a service to the public by allowing people with unwanted animals to put their pets up for adoption at our facility. Potential adopters of both foster and public animals are thoroughly screened and interviewed before being allowed to adopt.

Pawprints and Purrs, Inc. (P&PI) is a small all volunteer, animal non-profit rescue organization located in Keithville, Louisiana. We provide an animal educational service to the public by teaching the prevention of animal cruelty, pet guardianship responsibility, and basic cat and dog health care. Our rescue and adoption work is primarily taking an active part in TNR and assisting other feral cat care givers with the socializing, fostering, adopting, and transporting kittens and cats to their new forever homes in our immediate area.
We strongly emphasize the value of rescuing and re-homing abandoned, neglected and homeless felines. We assist those in need by providing rescue, shelter, medical care, and locating permanent homes. Our work directly supports the reduction of the "kill solution" for these homeless animal companions.

We are a non-profit animal welfare agency with a no-kill goal. No-kill means to us that we will euthanize no healthy, adoptable animal. We will strive tirelessly to achieve this goal and we will not be happy with less. " To Communicate, to Educate & to Motivate" This is how we will achieve our goal. As much as we wish to be an agency that does not have to euthanize healthy adoptable animals at this time it is impossible. In order to be a no-kill facility an agency must limit the number of animals admitted. Once full, animals are turned away. We feel it is important to never turn an animal away. Doing so would ensure they would be dumped in the woods to starve or worse. Here with us they will be assured a safe and most importantly a loving place if even for a short time. Currently we are housing all animals in what will be our adoption building. We received a $15,000 grant for our kennel building and along with the $20,000 we just recieved we will be able to complete the kennel! We really need individuals with carpentry experience, plumbers etc. Any amount of time or advice would be truly appreciated. Foster families can help us save lives. Animals that move into foster care for a short time 2 weeks -a couple of mths free up space in the building for another animal. Please consider this rewarding experience. All costs including food & medical care will be covered by the shelter. Saving a life is easy just call 318-757-CAWS, 318-757-4205 or 601-445-0712 and leave a message. We would like to speak to your club, classroom etc... to spread the word and work of CAWS and promote humane and responsible treatment of animals. Please feel free to call or e-mail. For membership: Single $10 Family $15 Business $100 Mail to: CAWS 1212 First St Ferriday, La 71334 or call and we will send you a brochure and application. Volunteers do not have to be involved with actual animal care if you do not desire as we have many, many things that need to be done.

The HSA is a newly formed group dedicated to providing the best possible care for as many abandonned and abused animals as resources permit. We are a small group of volunteers and foster homes and we are learning as we go. We serve the Avoyelles Parish area and are restricted to taking certain pets. We try to find homes for our rescued pets, we post our adoptable pets online and we also bring them to PetsMart in Alexandria on weekend adoption days.
