St. Martin Humane SocietyThe St. Martin Humane Society was founded in April 1999 by a group of concerned citizens. The Society obtained a 501 (c3) tax exemption status in June 2000 and relies on community support and fund raising to fulfill its mission. We have pets for adoption from different sources (strays, owner released...) and we rely solely on foster homes for the animal in our care. We also work very hard to try to reduce the overpopulation of domestic animals in the area served by the Society through low cost and free spay-neuter programs. Lafayette Animal AidWe are a no-kill shelter in Lafayette (Carencro), LA that houses at the shelter, on average, 65 dogs and 65 cats. We also provide for more animals living in foster homes. All of our animals are current on shots, and all are spayed/neutered. Cats are tested and vaccinated for Feluk and FIV. Dogs are tested for heartworms and if necessary, treated. We do not discriminate against any animal due to size, age, color, breed, or behavioral problems, unless the animal is too aggressive for our volunteers to handle and poses a threat to other animals and volunteers. Intakes are dependent upon availability of space at the shelter. Adoption fees for both cats and dogs are $80.00.P. O. Humane Society of Louisiana - Acadia ChapterOur mission and goal is to save lives. Our organization investigates cases of animal abuse and neglect. Most of our animals come into our shelter through seizures or they are rescued from local pounds. We also remove stray animals living on the streets and try placing them in loving homes. Humane Society of West LouisianaThe Humane Society of West Louisiana was founded in August of 1998. We are a small group of volunteers that rescue abandoned, abused or neglected animals. We provide a safe environment for the animals and get them medical care. The animals are evaluated for their health and their temperment, and then put in foster homes until they are adopted. Concordia Animal Welfare Shelter RescueWe are a non-profit animal welfare agency with a no-kill goal. No-kill means to us that we will euthanize no healthy, adoptable animal. We will strive tirelessly to achieve this goal and we will not be happy with less. " To Communicate, to Educate & to Motivate" This is how we will achieve our goal. As much as we wish to be an agency that does not have to euthanize healthy adoptable animals at this time it is impossible. In order to be a no-kill facility an agency must limit the number of animals admitted. Once full, animals are turned away. We feel it is important to never turn an animal away. Doing so would ensure they would be dumped in the woods to starve or worse. Here with us they will be assured a safe and most importantly a loving place if even for a short time. Currently we are housing all animals in what will be our adoption building. We received a $15,000 grant for our kennel building and along with the $20,000 we just recieved we will be able to complete the kennel! We really need individuals with carpentry experience, plumbers etc. Any amount of time or advice would be truly appreciated. Foster families can help us save lives. Animals that move into foster care for a short time 2 weeks -a couple of mths free up space in the building for another animal. Please consider this rewarding experience.
