Kankakee County Animal FoundationThe Kankakee County Animal Foundation is a Voluntary Not For Profit Organization which consists of a Board of Directors, President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. The KCAF is located in Kankakee County Illinois. The organization's focus is Fostering, Adoptions, Emphasizing Spay/Neuter and Responsible Pet Ownership Education. The organization's volunteer foster homes are important to the success of the adoption process. Local shelters are also part of this process. Local veterinarians are used to provide necessary animal wellness which includes all vacinations,lab tests, etc. As part of the KCAF's project, through donations, they provide the monetary resources to enable the local veterinarians to provide low cost spay/neuter. Additionally, our volunteers strive to educate the public about responsible pet ownership. They call upon friends, teachers, scout leaders, parents, etc., for help. Most of the reasons that animals end up in animal control are preventable by teaching children animal safety and pet care. Many of the problems of today can be decreased as these children grow up and become responsible pet owners. The Foundation has asked educators to add this information to their units on safety, biology, etc., urging scout leaders to encourage children to work toward badges related to these subjects. Parents need to set the good example by teaching their children safe, responsible pet care at home. KCAF provides information on related educational materials. Kankakee County Humane SocietyThe Kankakee County Humane Society celebrates 42 years of service to the community as the area's only NO KILL facility. The Humane Society began in 1963 with a few dedicated volunteers and no place to house abandoned, lost, and sometimes abused animals. Mercer County Animal ShelterThe Mercer County Animal Shelter is a non-profit organization. We are supported entirely by donations and a small fee charged to the towns of Mercer County to pick up and care for unwanted, stray, and abandoned animals. We are a open admission Shelter .That is a county operation . With limit kennel space... We have 6 inside outside runs and 5 extra inside runs in the back for isolation for dogs and 10 available spaces for cats. With that said we hold a wonderful record of not having to euth any adoptable animal that has come through our doors for 2 years now!!! With the hard work of the staff and the many rescues we work with we have also been able to help out other neighboring shelters absorbing some of their animals also. We also have in place a wonderful fostering program. Henry County Animal ControlThe Henry County Animal Control Department was established in its current facility in Cambridge, Illinois in 1978. It has a staff of two, the Animal Control Officer and an Office Assistant . This department enforces state and county ordinances pertaining to animal abuse, bites, rabies control, and handles the issuing of rabies tags and domestic animal registration for all of Henry County. Over the years the Department has been a self-supporting program, costing no taxpayer dollars except for vehicles and a building expansion. The Animal Control Department also works closely with, and is currently a branch of, the Henry County Sheriff's Office. P.F.S. (Pets for Seniors)P.F.S. (which stands for Pets for Seniors) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose main purpose is to match older, compatible shelter cats and dogs with qualifying senior citizens. In addition to finding a pet for a senior citizen, we pay most of the adoption fee and offer other services in this area. For a list of those services visit our website at www.petsforseniors.org . In additon to this, we occasionally rescue and foster exceptional animals from animal control facilities when their time is up.
