We are a pound, not a shelter. Unfortunately we do have to euthanize for lack of space and dogs may only be held for 8 days if space becomes an issue. So please contact us immediately if you see a dog you would like to adopt because their time may be almost up. With the help of Petfinder.com and various rescue organizations we have been operating for over one year now as a no kill shelter. With your support, we hope to continue operating this way forever.

The purpose of the Society is to promote humanity and kindness, and to prevent cruelty to man and animals, by information, statistics, appropriate literature, and by all lawful means which they may deem wise and best, and by assisting in prosecution of crimes of a cruel and inhumane nature; and generally to encourage justice and humanity and to discourage injustice and inhumanity."

We are a group of dedicated volunteers working to save the lives of wonderful pets who may have been abandoned, dumped or surrendered by the people they loved and trusted. Their only problem is that they don't have a forever home to go to. Some of our dogs come from high kill sheters in GA and TN where they run the very real risk of being put to sleep at any time due to the steady, daily arrival of more and more dogs. Puppies are special targets due to lack of spaying and neutering in those states.

The Rescue was started in 1982 by BonnieJeanne Gorden who has dedicated her life to easing the suffering of animals. Originally started as a home for unwanted horses, Tara Farm Rescue has expanded and now unwanted, neglected and abused cows, pigs, rabbits, chickens, goats, dogs and cats are taken in, rehabilitated, and when possible, placed in adoptive homes.
