The Larimer Humane Society is an open-door shelter. Unlike no-kill facilities, we offer care to every animal in need. In order to be a no-kill shelter we would have to limit the number and types of animals we accept. We don’t turn any animal away and last year, the Humane Society sheltered over 9000 domestic animals and over 2500 wild animals, and the Animal Protection and Control Department answered over 20,000 calls. In 2004 the Larimer Humane Society adopted over 3,000 into loving new homes.

The MaxFund is a non-profit organization that was established in May of 1988 to provide medical care for injured pets with no known owners, and to seek out new homes for these animals once they have recovered. The MaxFund is a no-kill dog and cat shelter. The MaxFund is a TRUE no-kill shelter. There is no pre-sorting of animals into "adoptable" and "non-adoptable" categories, discarding the so-called "unadoptable." The MaxFund takes every animal it has the space for.
