ASAP reached our initial goal of completely eliminating unnecessary euthanasia at the San Luis Obispo County, California Animal Shelter. From 2001, when thousands of animals lost their lives, to 2002 when San Luis Obispo County had the fourth best save rate in the entire country to 2004 when euthanasia for space was zero! That was quite an accomplishment. However, we are finding it terrifically difficult to maintain a zero euthanasia rate. The wonderful dogs and cats we list on Petfinder are animals that were going to be surrendered to the pound, but the owners are giving us a short time to try to find a new home under our No Place Like Home program.

Our mission is to eliminate the surplus animals from being born.
Through this relentless pursuit, we will reach the point of balance between supply and demand. In return, animals will become more valuable and therefore, hopefully, treated with respect.

We have operated an adoption center in Lompoc for the past 20 years. Right now, we have almost 150 cats in residence. While we hope that many will be adopted into loving homes, those cats who aren't adopted will live their lives in a safe, comfortable, cat-friendly environment.

We care for stray and homeless animals, including cats, kittens, dogs, puppies, rabbits and other animals such as chickens, guinea pigs or iguanas. We always hope the family will come to reclaim their lost pet, but is not, we work to find a loving new family for them. While the animals stay with us, we provide a warm place to sleep, good food and keep them safe from dangers such as cars. We ensure that dogs are current on their rabies vaccinaton and license. At Animal Services, our goal is to ensure that all the animals in our County have a safe place to live. We work hard to find loving homes for the many dogs, cats, rabbits and other animals that come into our care. Together, with community partners and concerned citizens, we are making sure that all these animals have a "Forever Home!"
