We are a non-profit 501(c) established in 1996. We adopt from the shelters, the shelter hospitals; provide medical care for homeless, sick and injured animals from the street; and provide our web site for advertising to owners who can longer keep their pets. We take as many animals as space permits in our Center and in our homes. We survive entirely on donations and our medical expenses are extremely high. We are all volunteers; we have no paid staff. We have a low-cost spay and neuter clinic. See our website for details.

We began in May of 1991. Our main purpose has always been to rescue and place "orphan" cats into safe and loving homes. To achieve this goal we found that it was advantageous to bring together various rescue groups and private individuals who had the common need of placing cats they had rescued. Cat Crossing provides the staff to run adoption "shows." Our responsibilities are diverse, our staff does everything from screening prospective homes to buying advertising and providing the administrative backup needed to run our now extensive adoption program. All of our staff are volunteers.

The Cat House on the Kings is not just a rescue. We are also a lifetime sanctuary and adoption center. We try to find the best possible homes for the cats and kittens that reside here and we never kill the cats we take in. They stay here until they are adopted or die of old age........however long that takes.

The Cat People, an all-volunteer organization, was founded in October of 1990 in Bakersfield, California by two friends outraged about the actions of an urban landlord who trapped abandoned cats and drowned them. They soon gathered together a group of individuals who shared their concern -- and the group's mission grew to encompass the plight of homeless cats city-wide. Out of this grass-roots effort grew a nonprofit organization with a Board of Directors and a solid administrative base. The mission of The Cat People is to reduce cat overpopulation, through spay/neuter programs, and compassionately manage feral cat colonies..
