The Humane Society of Sonoma County, founded in 1931, is a not-for-profit, charitable organization that serves animals and people throughout Sonoma County. Donations from individuals, businesses and foundations who share our commitment to the animals and to the quality of life in our community make our services and programs possible. Every dollar given goes to work for the animals and people right here in Sonoma County. Without your donations we would be unable to fund the programs so vital to our mission of providing quality care and a safe haven for our companion animals, finding each animal a loving home and providing education and outreach to better the lives of people and their pets.

We have many dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, and farm animals up for adoption year round. Most all of our adoptable animals have rescued from euthanasia at local shelters and are in need of responsible, forever homes. We temperament test each animal, all necessary shots are up-to-date as well. All of our dogs, cats, and rabbits are spayed/neutered before going home to new families. They are lovable and in need of your love.

We are an all-volunteer animal shelter formed in 1986 to find homes for dogs, cats, and the occasional rabbit found in Seal Beach. Because we are a humane, pro-life shelter, we keep healthy, adoptable animals until we find a new home for them.

Wing and a Prayer Rescue is a small independent rescue, 501c(3) status pending, comprised of a few individuals who take dogs from high kill shelters or special needs dogs and place them in loving permanent homes. Since it's inception in the summer of 2003 over 250 dogs have been rescued and rehomed. As the number of dogs saved is directly proportionate to the number of foster homes we have, foster homes are always being sought out. Wing and a Prayer pays for food and any medical expenses incurred. If you'd like to share your home with a deserving dog in route to it's forever home please email Nola at stewball3@comcast.net or call 707-874-1312. You won't be sorry!

Shafter Animal Control operates under the Shafter Police Department. The Animal Control Department has one officer who services Shafter. Services that are povided include: stray animal pick -up and control, bite investigations, rabies control, cruelty investigations, animal husbandry education, citizen complaints and adoptions. We are staffed with one full - time animal control officer and two part - time kennel attendants. Our shelter has 13 indoor/outdoor kennels and 9 cat cages. If we need more space in the dog runs , we can utilize each kennel as two when we close the dividing door which then gives us a maximum of 26 kennels. Our shelter is NOT a no kill facility but we try our best to find homes for our most adaptable animals. Our animals are picked up as strays, rescued from abusive homes or surrendered by their owners. We impound approximately 1,200 animals per year. Space and time is precious at our small shelter. Each adoptable animal is vying for their chance to find a loving home. Animals are taken in from Shafter city areas only. If you would like to know more about us or to make a donation to our shelter, please call the phone number below. We currently need grooming supplies and Kong dog chew toys.
