ASAP reached our initial goal of completely eliminating unnecessary euthanasia at the San Luis Obispo County, California Animal Shelter. From 2001, when thousands of animals lost their lives, to 2002 when San Luis Obispo County had the fourth best save rate in the entire country to 2004 when euthanasia for space was zero! That was quite an accomplishment. However, we are finding it terrifically difficult to maintain a zero euthanasia rate. The wonderful dogs and cats we list on Petfinder are animals that were going to be surrendered to the pound, but the owners are giving us a short time to try to find a new home under our No Place Like Home program.

Last Hope Cat Kingdom is a non profit animal rescue for cats (and the occasional dog). We currently are working through foster homes until our 10 room sanctuary is completed at which time we will be able to open our doors to rescue and re-home more feline friends. 18 acres of land has been purchased for the construction of Last Hope Cat Kingdom Sanctuary and we are happy to say that we are in the final stages of building and we plan to be open by the end of 2005. We have had many set backs with the construction but we still strive to meet our goal of providing a safe haven for homeless cats. We are still in need of monetary donations to help with construction needs. If you would like to help please send a donation to Last Hope Cat Kingdom 6660 Bailey Ave, Atwater CA 95301

The Cat People, an all-volunteer organization, was founded in October of 1990 in Bakersfield, California by two friends outraged about the actions of an urban landlord who trapped abandoned cats and drowned them. They soon gathered together a group of individuals who shared their concern -- and the group's mission grew to encompass the plight of homeless cats city-wide. Out of this grass-roots effort grew a nonprofit organization with a Board of Directors and a solid administrative base. The mission of The Cat People is to reduce cat overpopulation, through spay/neuter programs, and compassionately manage feral cat colonies..
