Animal control for the City of Powell is just one of the many responsibilities of the Powell Police Department and is a priority for the Community Service Officer. Animal control isn't limited to dogs running at large but we also are concerned for the safety, welfare and education of both citizens and animals which may be sick, injured, dangerous, creating a nuisance, abandoned, found or lost. The City of Powell/Moyer Animal Shelter's daily operation is assisted by the organization "Caring for Powell Animals" and many volunteers.

We love all animals, and have a deep and abiding respect for all kinds of life.
We spay/neuter, pay for vet care, boarding/fostering for homeless strays, unclaimed "pound" dogs and cats. We maintain a list of unwanted pets and match them with people wanting to adopt.
Since November 1998 not one healthy pet in our community has been euthanized due to our efforts!

Previously been known as the Douglas Animal Shelter, Laramie Peak Humane Society was selected as the new name for the community animal shelter. LPHS is a non-profit organization that serves companion animals in Douglas, WY and the surrounding area. The purpose of LPHS is to protect, care for and provide for the reasonable and humane disposition of homeless dogs and cats in our community. This organization assists care givers and pet owners in protecting, caring for and treating animals in a compassionate and humane manner. We work hard to educate the community about the importance of spaying and neutering to help keep the number of unwanted dogs and cats down, as well as advocating for the humane treatment of animals. If you have any questions or suggestions, please give us a call at 307-358-6475; and you can always come visit us at 612 N. 2nd Street in Douglas.
