Provide nourishment and medical care for wild, exotic, stray, surrendered and all other animals in our care Provide basic health screening including preventative disease control for all the animals in our care Vaccinate animals in our care against diseases. Adopt out strays, unwanted and abandoned animals. Humanely euthanize those animals we are unable to place. Sell dog licenses and voluntary cat registrations. Enforce all animal control and anti-cruelty ordinances. Provide shelter care for animals in protective custody, under observation or quarantine. Provide a volunteer program through which members of the community can get actively involved in helping our animals. Provide lost and found services. Provide adoption counseling. Groom shelter animals. Provide information on pet owner responsibility and pet care. San Luis Valley Animal Welfare SocietyThe San Luis Valley Animal Welfare Society is a nonprofit (501c3) with a mission to improve the wellbeing of animals (primarily dogs & cats) in the San Luis Valley (SLV). We have active rescue and spay/neuter programs. We have rescued over 2,000 homeless often suffering dogs and cats in the past 3 years. We have received numerous grants for spay/neutering dogs and cats in this valley to reduce the number of homeless pet animals. All charitable donations to us are tax deductible and will be acknowledged with a card so stating. The SLV is the largest alpine valley in the world (roughly the size of Connecticut) and currently does not have a no-kill animal welfare facility. Our goal is to build a low up-front cost, low-operating-cost, sustainable, no-kill animal welfare facility.
