The majority of the animals on this website are from the West Memphis Animal Shelter & Humane Society of Eastern Arkansas in West Memphis, Arkansas. When they are put into foster homes in the Memphis area, they are moved to this website. Some of the animals on this website are in foster homes with the good samaritans that rescued them. There are also some special dogs on here that other shelters, like the Oxford Animal Shelter, have asked us to put on our website to make sure that they get a fair chance at being seen. We prefer to adopt in the Mid-South AREA, usually no more than 1-2 hours away in driving distance. We rarely adopt long distance, but will consider each and every application.

The Midwest Animal and Potbellied Pig Association & Rescue (MAPPAR). MAPPAR is a non-profit domestic and farm animal sanctuary, animal shelter dedicated to the well being of all animals, and ending the suffering of all animals. Since MAPPAR began in 1996, we have devoted our resources and time to all help animals.
MAPPAR is a non-profit animal rescue association, which provides sanctuary, food, shelter, and vet care, and necessary provisions to unwanted, abused, and abandoned animals. Since the beginning, MAPPAR has re-homed, and rescued a variety of animals.
MAPPAR currently provides sanctuary for ponies, potbellied pigs, sheep, farm pigs, feral (and many semi-and non-feral) cats, dogs, and other animals. Our focus is to re-home and place animals when strictly screened and suitable homes can be obtained.

We are a group of individuals who work with other groups and shelters to save a few innocent pets from euthanization. Most shelters are overflowing with too many animals. This means many animals will be euthanized. For this reason, we are in continuous rotation of foster animals within our own homes. Volunteers foster many cats, dogs and horses. Placement of these animals makes room for another to be saved. Due to lack of space and finances we can only save what our homes will hold. Some fosters save one pet at a time, others can do three or even more. These pets are given temporary homes until we can find them a forever home.

We are a "network" of rescuers in the Midwest. Many of us have known one another for years from helping with various local rescue groups, shelters, and national breed rescue groups. All of us have had the experience of coming across a dog that needed help that didn’t have a rescue group that could take them into their program. We were finding that regardless of breed or whether a dog is "purebred", there are many of us out there who wanted to help these dogs and need a place to list them. Therefore, we decided to start Midwest Dog Rescue Network to help rescuers help dogs that would otherwise "fall through the cracks". We are a collection of rescuers and some good-hearted individuals, who are just trying to help as many good dogs find homes as possible.

We do not have any paid staff, no corporate jets, Swiss bank accounts or luxury condos in foreign lands. The animals are rescued and cared for daily, by volunteers. The costs we have are specialty feeds, vet expenses, hay, straw, woodshavings, and farm supplies like water heaters, tanks, garden hoses, electric cords... nothing too fancy. What what we have seen over the last few months, is an influx of calls from people who can no longer afford to feed their animals

We are a small, non-profit group of concerned citizens in a severely economically depressed area, with little community support for animal welfare. WE HAVE RECENTLY ACCEPTED ANOTHER BUILDING WITH CATS TO BE CARED FOR FROM LYONS FERAL CAT GUARDIANS WITH 15 CATS!! PLEASE HELP US CONTINUE THEIR CARE!!! While there are so many uwanted animals to help, we do NOT simply hand out pets. We take them into our hearts and homes and care greatly about their future. We do this because we care and want to know that the animals we help are in the best homes possible. Toward this end, we require applications, home visits and adoption fees which, (without government funding) allow us to continue this effort. Our group consists of dedicated volunteers only with NO PAID EMPLOYEES!! EVERY DONATION GOES DIRECTLY TO HELP AN ANIMAL! We are not a shelter but we do have a cat sanctuary and our dogs are housed in foster homes. WE ALWAYS NEED DONATIONS OF ANY ANIMAL ITEMS: HEARTWORM MEDS, FLEA TREATMENT, etc., AS WELL AS MONETARY DONATIONS! WE DO NOT RECEIVE GOV'T FUNDING OF ANY SORT AND RELY ONLY ON THE KINDNESS OF ANIMAL LOVERS TO HELP US CONTINUE OUR EFFORTS!

We are a multifaceted Animal Control Agency. First we are a law enforcement agency. We enforce all laws pertaining to animals. We pick up and impound any roaming dogs. We respond to over 150 animal complaints a month. We have an immaculately clean facility and very wholesome environment so that the animals can thrive and with a little love, attention, and training be adopted to suitable homes.
We also have a very good educational program for area schools, and a very successful Pet Therapy program for the area convalescent homes.
We have a wonderful volunteer program geared toward parent-child interaction. Our volunteers do fund raisers, care for the animals and plant flowers, etc. to make the Shelter more inviting. They also run a pet food bank that supplies pet food to indigent people who would otherwise have to give up their beloved pet for lack of money to feed them.
Last year, we began a feral cat project. We as a community, trap, inoculate, and alter, and release them back to the area so that we may eventually end the feral cat colonies plaguing our City.
