Kingsport Police Department, Animal ControlThe Animal Control Officers are responsible for enforcement of the animal control ordinances of the city, picking up stray or abandoned animals, monitoring health and welfare of domestic animals, and assisting the Humane Society in animal cruelty investigations. This unit responded to 3,176 calls for service in 2004. This is a decrease of 149 calls from 2003. In addition, the Animal Control Officers picked up and disposed of 942 dead animals located on city right-of-ways. KitKat Feline RescueI am an independent rescuer who feeds several feral cat colonies and have worked hard to get all the cats spayed and neutered to prevent the birth of unwanted kittens. The kittens I have for adoption are usually the offspring of these feral kitties who have been tamed and deserve loving homes. I sometimes come across tame stray kitties who show up at the feral colonies so I try to find them homes as well.
