Homeward Bound is a non profit, no-kill organization based in Gilmer County, Georgia. We are dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing environment for unwanted companion animals, while actively seeking permanent homes through our adoption programs.
Our goal is to reduce the number of stray cats and dogs in our community through education programs, referral lists for neighboring shelters and rescue groups, and by offering cost-effective spay/neuter programs for those in need of financial assistance. Since August 29, 2000, we have rescued and adopted out 3,329 animals!

The mission of Homeward Bound Pet Shelter is to shelter and rehabilitate relinquished cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies until they can be permanently adopted into loving homes. Homeward Bound has operated as a no-kill, not-for profit organization since April 2002.
On July 1, 2005, Homeward Bound became a division of Macon Resources, Inc. Macon Resources, Inc. is a not for profit agency that provides comprehensive services and supports which promote growth, independence, and self-worth for children and adults with disabilities and their families. This unique social partnership is benefiting both organizations as well as the Decatur community.
During fiscal year 2006, we placed 258 dogs and 128 cats. That's a total of 386 animals whose lives we have touched in a very positive way! We rescued pets not only from the Decatur and Macon County area but from several humane societies and animal control facilities throughout central and southern Illinois.
Our vision to establish community outreach programs is becoming a reality. During the past year, we have held obedience training classes, gave presentations to schools and other organizations, and started a foster program.

Honuchan is a non-profit organization that operates completely off gracious donations and big hearted volunteers. There was a fire at the Sactuary 1/18/07. 2 rescue dogs perished in the fire and surely will be found waiting at the rainbow bridge. Please pray for the sanctuary owners and their dogs. Very devastating.
