The Napanee Branch of the Ontario SPCA has a long and wonderful history. This history has been published in a book, written by M.J. Finlay. A few books are available for purchase from the shelter at a cost of just $5 (proceeds to the shelter). It is a fascinating read and has some lovely historical pictures.

Contrary to popular belief, the S.P.C.A. is not government funded. In fact, other than the general fees collected at the shelter, there is no steady source of income for the Society. Only through generous donations, fundraisers and grants are we able to continue paying our monthly bills, staff wages, building upgrades and maintenance, utility expenses, cleaning materials, pet food and supplies, veterinary fees, and all other miscellaneous costs.

The London Humane Society works to assist animals by providing them with a home until they can be adopted into a new family. We offer shelter and care, including medical care, to hundreds of animals each year, and respond to more than 1,000 complaints of animal cruelty. We rescue animals from bad situations, laying criminal charges when warranted. We also provide the community with information and education, believing that education, particularly of our young people, is one of the most effective ways to teach a sense of responsibility toward companion animals as well as a respect and compassion for all living beings. None of these important animal care programs would be possible, however, without the help of concerned and caring people like you.
