Every year, domestic fowl, mostly chickens, are impounded by Minneapolis Animal Control (MAC). These birds are victims of neglect, abuse and abandonment, sometimes used as a source of eggs or intended for slaughter, fighting or ritual sacrifice. Some are the discarded outcome of "nature lessons" for children or after a hobby that no longer holds interest.
After their release from MAC, Chicken Run provides the birds with temporary shelter and vet care, locates and screens adopters and transports the birds to their new homes within 90 miles of Minneapolis/St. Paul vicinity. There is a special need for rooster homes.

Midwest Avian Adoption & Rescue Services, Inc. is a captive bird rescue, adoption, sanctuary & care education group.
All of the organizations listed on our site have resolved to help stop the growing displaced captive parrot overpopulation problem by not breeding birds or adopting birds into breeding situations.
Note: While we support the wide variety of ways that displaced birds may find new quality, non-breeding homes, MAARS does not necesarily know or endorse the organizations or web sites listed on our website. Please research your adoption or surrender options carefully. We wish you the best of luck in your bird adoption or placement search!

This society serves the community, both animals and people, primarily by:
providing quality care and adoption services for animals in need,
offering educational programs to encourage the awareness, understanding and practice of humane principles, and
handling questions and complaints regarding animal care and behavior, including alleged cruelty, and neglect cases.
Philosophy Statement
SHELTER
The base of operations of the Tri-County Humane Society is our shelter. It is there that we give temporary care to animals who for on various reasons are homeless.
We value:
Clean, cheerful, healthy, and inviting atmosphere for both animals and people,
Our professional and compassionate staff who provide daily care for the animals at the shelter and insure a successful adoption program, and
Our volunteers who, in assisting the staff in daily animal care, willingly take on both pleasant and unpleasant tasks.
EDUCATION
Through our educational programs, we teach humane and well-informed animal care.
We strive to:
Inform people of the problem of pet overpopulation and the multiple benefits of spaying and neutering their pets,
Help pet owners to understand total animal care, including how to meet their pets= nutritional, behavioral, and social needs,
Emphasize a sense of responsibility and the realization that pet ownership involves a lifelong commitment, and
Create an awareness of our mission in the community at large.
