It is the mission of the Humane Society of Boulder Valley to protect and enhance the lives of companion animals by promoting healthy relationships between pets and people. The Humane Society is a 501(c)3 private, independent, nonprofit corporation governed by a volunteer Board of Directors composed of community members who are dedicated to animal welfare. We are funded primarily through private donations and service revenue. We are not controlled or funded by any statewide or national organization. Donations made to national animal welfare groups do not benefit our local pets. Since its inception in 1902, the Humane Society of Boulder Valley has become one of the most recognized nonprofit organizations in the community and a national leader in animal welfare. Serving our community for 103 years, the Humane Society of Boulder Valley provides quality care for the homeless and stray animals we serve.

The Larimer Humane Society is an open-door shelter. Unlike no-kill facilities, we offer care to every animal in need. In order to be a no-kill shelter we would have to limit the number and types of animals we accept. We don’t turn any animal away and last year, the Humane Society sheltered over 9000 domestic animals and over 2500 wild animals, and the Animal Protection and Control Department answered over 20,000 calls. In 2004 the Larimer Humane Society adopted over 3,000 into loving new homes.
