We are a small non-profit organization and we are always looking for new volunteers. We do all we can to make our pets happy and keep them healthy. Some of the expense has been great for heartworm treatment when one of our surrendered dogs tested positive. We always welcome sponsors or any donations. Do you have something you can no longer use that we can? If you have a dog house, pet taxi, blankets, metal buckets or pails, straw, cat, rabbit or dog food you would like to donate, please give us a call at (270) 881-9891 or (270) 885-0168.

We are the animal shelter for Terrebonne Parish. We pick up stray animals throughout the parish and we accept unwanted pets from Terrebonne Parish residents. Strays picked up by animal control have SEVEN days in our shelter. Owner surrenders are kept according to how much space the shelter has at that point in time. The shelter is open from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday and closed on major holidays. Adoptions are based primarily on applications. We try to match the animal to the most suitable home. It then goes by first come (and approved), first adopt. Spay/Neuter deposits are as follows: Male Cats/Kittens are $15.00 Female Cats/Kittens are $25.00 Male Dogs/Puppies are $30.00 Female Dogs/Puppies are $35.00 This is only a deposit that will be credited towards the vet bill to have the animal spayed/neutered. New owners are responsible for the remainder of the vet bill at the time of spay/neuter. All adult animals must be spayed/neutered within 30 days of adoption and all puppies/kittens must be spayed/neutered when of proper age (5-6 months). The new owner must take the animal to the vet within 3 days of adoption for a vet check and vaccinations for the animal. Most of the animals have not been seen by a vet because the shelter has no veterinarian on staff. Also, a $2.00 licensing fee will apply to each animal adopted.

. FOUNDED IN 1996 Pets Are Us Rescue has been saving many of the uncommon animals in the pet trade industry. Many of these animals are misunderstood or have grown bigger than expected (iguana's and snakes). We try to educate as much as possible are always available for care of these animals. Over the years there have been many people whom love these animals and have applied as volunteers. All our volunteers go through a very demanding and grueling process to become a member. They do this with their own money and dedication to these animals. All volunteers have specialized in different areas of the pet industry. We supply as much information as possible about the animal you are adopting!!!! PETS ARE US RESCUE IS A TOTALLY VOLUNTARY ORGANIZATION. WE HAVE NO PAID EMPLOYEE'S, ALL ANIMALS ARE HOUSED AT HOMES TO ENSURE 24-7 CARE. THIS ENABLES A MORE STABLE PET AND ADOPTION. WE KNOW THE ANIMALS BETTER THIS WAY. LESS STRESS.
